Published Oct. 6, 2026, 4:18 p.m. EDT. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is dealing with a sprained ankle and has only an outside chance to play against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, according to NFL Network reporting published Tuesday.
The NFL’s Oct. 6 news roundup said Jackson suffered the injury during Baltimore’s Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans and left after the second quarter. The report attributes the diagnosis and timetable to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Tyler Huntley would start if Jackson sits
If Jackson cannot play, Tyler Huntley is expected to start against Atlanta. The Ravens were 3-1 entering the week, making the quarterback decision a major factor in their attempt to build on that start.
The “outside chance” description does not amount to an official game designation. Baltimore’s practice participation reports and final injury report later in the week will provide the formal status—questionable, doubtful or out—once the club files them with the league.
An ankle sprain can vary widely in severity, and no longer-term recovery timeline was included in the NFL report. Jackson’s workload in practice, if any, will be the clearest public indicator before the game.
Ravens also lose a tight end
The same NFL roundup reported that Ravens tight end Durham Smythe will miss the rest of the season after an MRI confirmed a torn Achilles. That compounds Baltimore’s injury concerns entering the Atlanta matchup.
Because Tuesday’s update is based on league-network reporting rather than the final team injury report, Jackson’s status can still change. AskNovus will update this page if the Ravens issue a materially different diagnosis or game designation.

[…] The injury adds to a difficult health week for the Ravens. Quarterback Lamar Jackson sustained an ankle sprain in the same game, though that is a separate injury with a different timetable. AskNovus previously covered Jackson’s Week 5 status. […]
