The Milwaukee Brewers opened the National League Championship Series with a 2-1 home victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night, taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Brice Turang tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Milwaukee moved ahead in the fifth when Garrett Mitchell scored on Luis Lara’s single, and the Brewers’ bullpen protected the one-run advantage through the final out.
How Milwaukee won Game 1
Dodgers starter Tarik Skubal controlled the first three innings before Turang drove a 2-0 pitch 384 feet to left-center. The homer erased Los Angeles’ early 1-0 lead and gave Milwaukee’s lineup life in a low-scoring game.
The Brewers manufactured the deciding run an inning later. Mitchell reached scoring position and came home on Lara’s single, putting Milwaukee ahead 2-1.
Brewers bullpen closes the door
Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five and walking three. DL Hall, Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby and closer Trevor Megill combined to keep Los Angeles scoreless after Misiorowski left.
The Dodgers created one last threat in the ninth. Two two-out walks brought Mookie Betts to the plate as the potential tying or go-ahead run, but Betts flied out to center to end the game.
What the result means
- Milwaukee leads 1-0: The Brewers protected home-field advantage in the opener.
- Run prevention decided it: Milwaukee’s relievers recorded the final 14 outs without allowing a run.
- Los Angeles missed late chances: The Dodgers put two runners aboard in the ninth but could not produce the tying hit.
- Game 2 is Monday: The series remains in Milwaukee before shifting to Los Angeles.
