Football on a field illustrating Durham Smythe's season-ending injury

Published Oct. 6, 2026, at 7:24 p.m. EDT. Baltimore Ravens tight end Durham Smythe is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after an MRI confirmed a torn Achilles, according to reports published Tuesday.

The injury occurred during Baltimore’s 24–18 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Smythe left the game after appearing to sustain a lower-leg injury and did not return.

Team report confirms the season-ending diagnosis

The Ravens’ official website reported Oct. 6 that Smythe suffered a torn Achilles and will be out for the season. An Oct. 6 Reuters report said the diagnosis was confirmed by MRI.

The Ravens had listed the injury as an Achilles issue immediately after Sunday’s game, but the season-ending diagnosis was not established until the later imaging report. The team had not announced a surgery date in the cited reports.

What the loss means for Baltimore

Smythe, 31, started Baltimore’s first four games and was used primarily as a blocker. He recorded one reception for four yards this season. His absence reduces the Ravens’ experienced depth behind the other tight ends and may create more blocking work for younger players or prompt a roster addition.

Across 133 regular-season games, including 80 starts, Smythe has 137 receptions for 1,257 yards and three touchdowns. Miami selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He later played for Chicago before joining Baltimore.

The injury adds to a difficult health week for the Ravens. Quarterback Lamar Jackson sustained an ankle sprain in the same game, though that is a separate injury with a different timetable. AskNovus previously covered Jackson’s Week 5 status.
