American football players competing under stadium lights

Published Oct. 6, 2026. The Atlanta Falcons used a dominant rushing attack to beat the New Orleans Saints 45–24 on Monday night at the Caesars Superdome, improving to 2–2 while dropping New Orleans to 1–3.

The Saints’ official recap, published Oct. 5, said Atlanta’s ground game controlled the night. The NFL’s official schedule lists the 45–24 result as final.

Robinsons lead Atlanta’s ground attack

Bijan Robinson set the tone with a 59-yard touchdown run on Atlanta’s third offensive play. He finished with 145 rushing yards and two scores, while Brian Robinson Jr. added 62 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Together, the Falcons ran for 205 yards and scored five times on the ground. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. added 223 passing yards and a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson as Atlanta built a 24–7 halftime advantage.

Saints struggle to keep pace

New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 286 yards on 30-of-48 passing, but the Saints did not produce a touchdown through the air until the final two minutes. Alvin Kamara scored twice on the ground, while the New Orleans rushing attack was held to 50 yards overall.

The game also marked the 20th anniversary celebration of the Saints’ first Superdome game after Hurricane Katrina. Atlanta’s early explosive play and sustained rushing production quickly changed the tone of the night.

What the result means

The Falcons returned to .500 with a second consecutive road win. The Saints, meanwhile, will need to address a run defense that allowed 205 yards and five touchdowns before their next game.
