Baseball players celebrating near home plate, illustrating the Phillies’ Game 2 comeback

Alec Bohm hit a two-out home run in the 10th inning and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 4–3 on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Truist Park in Atlanta. The comeback tied the National League Wild Card Series at one game apiece and forced a decisive Game 3 on Thursday.

Philadelphia was down 3–1 entering the eighth inning before Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back home runs to erase Atlanta’s lead. Bohm then drove a 1–1 fastball from Didier Fuentes just over the right-field wall in the 10th for the deciding run.

Phillies answer after Atlanta takes late lead

The teams traded early runs and remained tied 1–1 through six innings as Phillies starter Cristopher Sánchez and Braves starter Tyler Mahle limited the opposing lineups. Atlanta moved ahead 3–1 in the seventh, putting Philadelphia six outs from elimination.

The response came quickly. Schwarber opened the eighth-inning power surge with a solo homer, and Harper followed with the tying shot. The two home runs turned a late two-run deficit into a 3–3 game before Atlanta recorded an out.

Harper’s homer was especially consequential after a defensive mistake on a fly ball had contributed to Atlanta’s two-run seventh. His swing reset the game and gave Philadelphia’s bullpen a chance to extend it.

Bohm delivers in the 10th

With two outs and nobody on in the top of the 10th, Bohm sent Fuentes’ fastball 357 feet to right field. It was Bohm’s third career postseason home run and his first in the playoffs since 2023, according to Reuters.

The homer completed a comeback that had started with Philadelphia facing elimination. The Phillies entered Wednesday after losing the opener 5–3, when Austin Riley hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning. AskNovus covered that game in its Game 1 recap.

Fuentes took the loss after allowing the decisive homer. The Braves had used the rookie in high-leverage situations in both games of the series.

Andrew Painter closes three scoreless innings

Phillies right-hander Andrew Painter entered in the eighth and worked the final three innings without allowing a run in his postseason debut. He earned the win and stranded two runners in the eighth by striking out pinch hitter Dominic Smith after an automated ball-strike challenge.

Atlanta had traffic on the bases throughout the game but left 11 runners stranded. The Braves also failed to score in a bases-loaded, one-out opportunity in the sixth, one of several chances that became more costly after Philadelphia’s late home runs.

Matt Olson drove in two of Atlanta’s three runs. For Philadelphia, Harper and Bohm each finished with two hits and a home run.

What the result changes

The best-of-three series is now tied 1–1. Thursday’s Game 3 will decide which team advances to the National League Division Series and which team’s season ends.

That is a sharp change from the position Philadelphia faced after Tuesday’s opener. Atlanta had taken the series lead with Riley’s eighth-inning homer, leaving the Phillies one loss from elimination. Wednesday’s three late home runs moved the series from a potential Braves clincher to a winner-take-all game.

The deciding game is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at Truist Park. Readers should use the official MLB Gameday page and MLB’s postseason schedule for any timing or pitching changes, because postseason plans can be updated after a game.
