Loaves and baked goods displayed on a wooden shelf

Published Oct. 6, 2026. Flowers Foods is recalling certain Nature’s Own Hawaiian Bread packages because milk is not declared on the label, creating a potentially serious risk for people with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity.

The Food and Drug Administration posted the company announcement on Oct. 5. The affected bread was distributed to retail customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. No related illnesses or incidents had been reported when the notice was published.

Which Nature’s Own products are affected?

The recall covers Nature’s Own Hawaiian Bread in a 20-ounce single loaf and a 40-ounce two-pack. Consumers with a milk allergy should check the package carefully rather than relying on the product name alone.

  • 20-ounce loaf: UPC 0 72250 91662 2. Affected packages carry specified production codes beginning with 0188 and “Best if used by” dates from Oct. 8 through Oct. 18, 2026.
  • 40-ounce two-pack: UPC 0 72250 00683 5. The FDA notice lists the two-pack without a separate product-code or date restriction.

The FDA notice contains the complete production-code ranges and photographs of the packaging. Anyone checking a loaf should compare the printed UPC, production code and date directly with that official list.

What consumers should do

People who are allergic or severely sensitive to milk should not eat an affected loaf. Flowers Foods says the product may be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to the company’s consumer relations center at 1-866-245-8921, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.

Milk is one of the major food allergens that must be declared on packaged-food labels. For someone with an allergy, exposure can cause reactions ranging from hives and swelling to breathing problems. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms should seek emergency medical help.

How the labeling problem was found

Flowers Foods said a review of production records showed that certain 20-ounce and 40-ounce packages did not declare milk as an ingredient. The recall is precautionary and is being conducted with the FDA’s knowledge.
