September 30, 2026, morning update — All four Major League Baseball Wild Card Series return for Game 2 on Wednesday. Atlanta, Chicago’s White Sox, New York’s Yankees and San Diego each won their opener, so each can advance with one more victory. Philadelphia, Houston, Boston and the Chicago Cubs must win to force a third game Thursday.
Wednesday’s Game 2 schedule
- Phillies at Braves — 2 p.m. Eastern, NBC and Peacock.
- White Sox at Astros — 5 p.m. Eastern, Peacock and NBC Sports Network.
- Red Sox at Yankees — 8 p.m. Eastern, NBC and Peacock.
- Cubs at Padres — 10 p.m. Eastern, Peacock and NBC Sports Network.
These are the scheduled start times and U.S. outlets published by MLB. Times can change. The best-of-three format means any Wednesday loss by a Game 1 winner sends that series to a deciding Game 3; a second win ends it. MLB lists Thursday times as conditional and may rearrange them depending on how many series remain.
How the teams got here
Tuesday’s openers produced a 5–3 Braves win over the Phillies, a 6–3 White Sox win in Houston, a 9–0 Yankees shutout of Boston, and an 8–0 Padres shutout of the Cubs. Each losing team has a direct answer on Wednesday: win once to keep its season alive.
