Published Oct. 6, 2026. Uber has agreed to buy U.S. workplace-catering platform ezCater in an all-cash transaction valued at $2.3 billion, giving the delivery company a larger position in office meals, meetings and corporate events.
The companies announced the agreement Tuesday in an Oct. 6 Uber investor release. The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. Uber said it expects the transaction to close in the coming months.
What Uber is buying
Founded in 2007, ezCater operates a U.S. platform used by workplaces to arrange food for meetings, events and recurring employee meals. Uber plans to connect that catering business with the restaurant network already available through Uber Eats and with corporate customers served by Uber for Business.
Uber said ezCater generated more than $2.5 billion in gross bookings during the past 12 months. Average catering orders exceed $400, according to the announcement, making the business materially different from a typical individual restaurant delivery.
Why the deal matters
The proposed acquisition gives Uber another path to increase order values and restaurant revenue without relying only on household meal delivery. Corporate catering also tends to involve scheduled orders, larger groups and repeat business accounts.
Uber said ezCater is profitable on an adjusted operating-income basis and expects the transaction to improve margins. Those are company projections, not guaranteed outcomes. Integration costs, customer retention and the regulatory review could affect the eventual financial impact.
Reuters reported on Oct. 6 that the deal follows Uber’s continued effort to expand its delivery operations globally. The ezCater purchase is separate from Uber’s previously announced offer for Delivery Hero.
What happens next
- The transaction must clear regulatory review and customary conditions.
- Until closing, Uber and ezCater remain separate businesses.
- Uber has not announced a specific closing date beyond the coming months.
- Restaurant and corporate-customer integration details are expected closer to or after completion.
